Having gone missing on the day when her grandmother was found murdered in a Kalka house, a 19-year-old girl and her minor boyfriend were arrested for allegedly carrying out the crime to keep their relationship and elopment plans alive. According to police, the elderly woman had objected to the presence of her granddaughter’s boyfriend in her house and their relationship too.The boy had allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife multiple times, killing her on the spot. The brutal incident was reported on July 13.
Police produced the granddaughter, identified as Shristi, before a local court and obtained her 3-day police remand for further interrogation. The minor boy was produced before the juvenile justice board which sent him to juvenile home.
The victim, 60-year-old Geeta Devi, was found lying in a pool of blood in her house and her granddaughter, who was with her at home, was found missing since the incident was reported in Kalka.
Geeta stayed with her daughter-in-law Shivani and her three granddaughters, including Shristi, at their ancestral house in Kalka.
The victim’s husband had passed away in 2020 and her son Shiv Kumar had died on March 5 this year. In her complaint to police, Geeta’s daughter Neeru Main, a resident of Amravati Enclave, said she received a phone call from her cousin Mohit after which she rushed to her Kalka home and found her mother lying on the floor in a pool of blood. She had injury marks, possibly caused by sharp-edged weapon, on the neck and back. Her sister-in-law Shivani and her two daughters had gone to school while her mother was at home with Shristi.
After registering a murder case, police nabbed Shristi and her boyfriend from Ramgarh while investigating the case. Police said Shristi had met the boy through Instagram around a one year back and both had fallen in love. Cops said on the day of murder, the boy reached the house of Shrishti and she wanted to elope with him. However, the victim noticed her boyfriend in the house and objected to his presence and their relationship. The duo took an instinctive decision to eliminate her. The boy allegedly stabbed Geeta with a knife multiple times before both fleeing the house. They both fled to Haridwar, cops claimed.
Now, police are grilling the girl to recover the knife used in the crime and a scooter used by the duo to escape the spot.
