Punjab Governor Summons Winter Session On Nov 28 | Chandigarh News

Punjab governor Banwarilal Purohit has summoned the session of the Punjab assembly on November 28, two days after the cabinet decision to hold a two-day winter session. Earlier, the Raj Bhawan had objected to the AAP government’s decision to extend the budget session for two special sittings in June and October.

An order issued by the governor on Wednesday said that 16th legislative assembly would meet for its fifth session on November 28 at 2pm.The state cabinet on Monday decided to hold a two-day assembly session on November 28-29 to take up various pending Bills.
Amid the standoff between the Raj Bhawan and the AAP government, the governor had approved the decision to prorogue the budget session on November 17. Earlier, he had raised questions on the legislative business carried out during the two special sittings.

The three money Bills to be tabled in the assembly include The Indian Stamp (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2023, Punjab Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and The Punjab Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Amendment) Bill.

After the state government decided to approach the Supreme Court, the governor had on November 1, given his go-ahead to two of the money Bills while he approved the third one last week. The Punjab government had moved the Supreme Court alleging delay on Purohit’s part in granting assent to the Bills passed by the state assembly.

Earlier, in a letter to chief minister Bhagwant Mann on October 19, governor Purohit had advised him that the state government should convene a fresh monsoon or winter session of the assembly by informing him about the business to be conducted therein.
