Sikh Groups Protest Against Kangana Ranaut’s Film ‘Emergency’ in Punjab

Demanding a ban on BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ in Punjab, leaders of Sikh organisations, led by Behbal Kalan victim Krishan Bhagwan Singh’ son Sukhraj Singh and United Akali Dal leader Gurdeep Singh, staged a protest and burnt the posters of the film in Bathinda on Tuesday. Protesters said Sikhs in general and Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale had been shown in poor light in the film. The protesters assembled outside a theatre where the film is expected to be released on Sept 6 and held protests while holding placards.

They demanded Kangana’s arrest after registration of a case for hurting religious sentiments of Sikhs. They also urged theatre owners not to screen the film. They said if ‘Punjab 95’, a movie on the life of rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, could be banned in the state, so could Emergency. The protesters also handed over a memorandum in the name of Bathinda DC to a police officer who reached the protest site.
