Jairam Thakur, the Leader of Opposition has declared that starting lottery again is not in the interest of the state. According to him, the scheme was closed by former Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal when cases of ruination of families and suicides occurred as a result of the lottery.
The lottery ruined many families and sold homes to an auction. It had been discontinued even by the Virbhadra Singh government. In the previous BJP government, some people had offered to resume the lottery but the government did not even spare a word with them.
He claimed that to renew it, a deal has been struck now by the Sukhvinder Sukhu government in Punjab. It is another force that appears to motivate this move of restarting the scheme. In his own leadership as a Chief Minister, pressure was applied on him to re-start the lottery but he declined as it was in interest to the people. BJP will stage a protest against Sukhu government in this matter and if needed hit the streets.
Rs 7 Lakh Not Received by 2023 Disaster Victims-One Installment Received
He stated that the central government should most certainly give a relief package to Himachal to overcome the disaster recovery but he also added that the areas that are grossly affected require a special package that is area and project-specific. It has been promised that Rs 7 lakh will be paid in the 2023 disaster, but people received only the first amount till now. The state government had discussed a Rs 4,500 crore package –but where has that money gone? The victims of the problem are not getting assistance.
Negi Does not Think Humanitarian
When after looking at the case of Minister Jagat Singh Negi one of the reporters asked the Leader of Opposition, what he said about him, the latter replied, “I am not going to comment much on a person lacking a humanitarian point of view.” Jairam Thakur also stated that the opposition will majorly grill the government on any matter throughout the upcoming monsoon session.
It was quite a significant occasion that the anniversary of birth of the founder of Himachal should have been commemorated by a great event.
Jairam Thakur said that a big event ought to have been held in the birth anniversary of the founder of Himachal. The government ought to have taken this occasion seriously and at least one of the Chief Minister or the Deputy Chief Minister should have been present.
