Punjab Local Body Election Final Results: AAP Wins 70% of Seats, Here’s How Akali Dal, Congress, and BJP Performed

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been getting the good news in the results of the rural local body elections in Punjab. The colossal victory by AAP in the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections indicates that the popularity of Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal is still going on. Thursday, the Punjab State Election Commission declared the ultimate product of the general elections that were led to choose members in 346 zones of 22 Zila Parishads and 2,834 zones of 153 Panchayat Samitis.

AAP also won 218 zones in the Zila Parishad elections, 62 zones were won by Congress, 46 zones by Shiromani Akali Dal, 7 by BJP, 3 by BSP and 10 by Independent. During the Panchayat Samiti elections, AAP won 1,529 zones, Congress 611 zones, Shiromani Akali Dal 449 zones, BJP 73 zones, BSP 28 zones and Independents 144 zones.

AAP’s Dominance Continues in Punjab

The Aam Aadmi Party based in Punjab registered a resounding victory in the rural local body elections in Punjab with 63 percent of the seats in the Zila Parishad and 54 percent of the Panchayat Samiti seats. Based on the election results released on Thursday, Congress got second position, and Shiromani Akali Dal got third position. Fourth was the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party.

Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP national convenor, stated that the good performance of this party indicated that people in rural areas had supported the Bhagwant Mann-led government.

Counting Continued for Three Days

Voting counting that started on Tuesday ended on Thursday, and the final results of the entire elections were announced. The election was scheduled to be on December 14 to elect members to 347 Zila Parishad constituencies and 2,838 Panchayat Samiti constituencies in the entire state.

During the elections of Zila Parishad, AAP held 218 seats over the congress which got 62 seats. Shiromani Akali Dal led by Sukhbir Singh Badal got 46 seats, BJP got seven seats, Bahujan Samaj Party got three and Independents got 10.

During the Panchayat Samiti elections, the AAP has won 1,531 seats, Congress 612 seats and Shiromani Akali Dal 445 seats. Congress made 73 seats, BSP made 28 seats and Independents made 144 seats.

In response to the findings, Kejriwal indicated that the results meant there was a pro-AAP wave in the state. He pointed to the anti-drug movement, water flowing into farms after 75 years, free power and merit-based government jobs saying that the outcome indicated that the rural electorate has given a thumbs up to the work of the AAP government under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann.
