In the forests of Kishwa-Durauli village in Kanpur Dehat, the bodies of a 22-year-old man and his 16-year-old sister-in-law were found. The man’s body was decomposed, while the woman’s body had turned into a skeleton. Both had been missing for 11 days and were reportedly involved in a romantic relationship. Poisonous medicine and a glass were recovered from the scene. Police are investigating the case from both suicide and murder angles.
In Kanpur Dehat’s Kishwa-Durauli village, a shocking discovery was made on Thursday when locals informed the police about a strong foul smell coming from the bushes, suspecting dead bodies. Upon reaching the site, the police and forensic team recovered the bodies of a man and a woman. The woman’s body had been eaten by animals and was reduced to a skeleton, while the man’s body had decomposed in water.
During the investigation, the police found an Aadhaar card in the man’s clothing, revealing that he was 22-year-old Umakant, a resident of Khartala Bangar, Thana Rajpur. Upon contacting the family, his father, Mahavir, stated that Umakant had been missing for 11 days and a missing person report had been filed. The deceased woman was identified as Umakant’s 16-year-old sister-in-law. She had also been missing since 25 September. She was originally from the same village but had been living with her uncle in Devarahat for some time.
According to sources, the two were in a romantic relationship. Because of this, the family had sent the girl to her uncle’s house. Reports indicate that she went missing on 25 September, and their bodies were discovered on 2 October in the forest. Police recovered two disposable glasses and a packet of poisonous substance from the site. It is suspected that both may have consumed poison and committed suicide. Interestingly, the bodies were several days old, and the district had experienced heavy rainfall for the past two days. Questions have arisen about how the disposable glasses and poison tablets were found intact despite the rain, raising doubts about whether it was suicide or murder.
Area Officer Bhognipur, Sanjay Singh, stated that both bodies have been sent for postmortem. The actual cause of death will be determined once the reports are received. Meanwhile, the police continue to investigate the case.
