Bulldozer Action at House of Nagpur Riot’s Prime Suspect

Fahim Khan was named by the police as the primary suspect in the violence case in Nagpur. He is presently incarcerated after a sedition charge was filed against him.

Parts of Fahim Khan’s home, the primary suspect in the violence in Nagpur, were destroyed by a bulldozer. According to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, the “illegal portions” of his residence were demolished. Pratap Sarnaik, a government minister from Maharashtra, responded to the incident.

Fahim Khan is presently incarcerated after being charged with sedition. The residence is situated in Nagpur’s Yashodhara Nagar neighborhood’s Sanjay Bagh Colony. The residence is registered in Fahim Khan’s wife’s name, according to a PTI report.

Fahim Khan received a notification from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation a few days ago, according to sources who spoke to Hindustan Times. A number of infractions and the building plan’s lack of permission were noted in the notice.

Following demonstrations by Hindutva groups calling for the destruction of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, there was recent widespread rioting in Nagpur. Unrest in the Muslim community was sparked by rumours that the Quran was being burned during the rallies.

Police said that social media videos of the Bajrang Dal’s demonstrations went viral, inflaming Muslim resentment even further. According to Nagpur DCP Archit Chandak, “incorrect information” was shared, which led to the incident.

33 police officers, including three Deputy Commissioners, were injured in the widespread stone-pelting and burning that took place throughout the city during the turmoil. More than 100 persons have been taken into custody by the police in relation to the case. Fahim Khan, a Minority Democratic Party (MDP) leader, is one among them detained.
