Cancer Won, My Friends… A 21-Year-Old’s Final Words Break Millions of Hearts

An unusual post that was posted by a 21-year-old boy on social media has gone viral and brought millions of tears. He wrote, just before he took his last breath, Cancer won, my friends… — 5 words to create a tremble in the whole internet. The post has been posted millions of times and individuals have referred to him as a true warrior.

He was no coward when he was tired.

Reports show that the young man (Aditya on social media) had been fighting cancer over the last two years. In spite of receiving regular treatment, he continued to post joyful videos and messages, preaching hope and optimism. His last text was, I am rather weary, my friends… Maybe cancer won this time. But I gave it my all.” His language was full of misery, yet of a great soul, – of one who had preferred to smile to the end.

Cancer Won, My Friends

‘Cancer Won, My Friends… I’m Leaving Now’

The viral post was posted on the Reddit r/TwentiesIndia community and was entitled: Cancer won, my friends… I’m leaving now!”

He began his message saying:

“Listen, everyone. I’m 21 years old. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer of stage 4 in 2023. I have ever since undergone a myriad of chemotherapy sessions and spent myriad nights in hospital beds. Doctors have already informed me that there is nothing left that can be done. I might not even live till this year ends. Diwali is in its way and the streets are being lit up. This is a sad thought that this could be my final Diwali. I will not see the brightness of the light, people hanging on the laughter, and the blast of fireworks.

He continued:

“It feels strange… Life is sailing on and I am gradually falling behind. Someone will only be a memory the next year as I will have people lighting diyas in my home. I even dream of the future sometimes at night just as if it is part of my habit which I cannot get rid of. I also had dreams, to travel more, to do something of my own, and to adopt a dog when I am better. However, it is followed by the remembrance that time is out and those dreams gradually disappear.

I am home now and I have witnessed the tortured look of my parents on their faces day by day. I do not know the reason I am writing this. Perhaps because it is easier to share. Perhaps because I only wish to leave a small impression behind me. That’s all… I’m leaving now. Then we shall have a look on the other side. See ya!”

A Wave of Emotions Online

Once the post became viral, the social media was overwhelmed with love and grief. One of the users commented, You did not lose, you saved the humanity. His message was dubbed as a lesson of life by many since he demonstrated that the key is to win, not the result of winning.

A Short Life, a Big Lesson

Aditya did not simply say goodbye, it was an educational experience to millions of people. He advised everyone that no matter how impossible life might appear, smiling in the face of pain is the purest type of courage. He had demonstrated that death is powerless to overcome it all, as his smile still lives on – online and in the heart of every person that read his tale.
