Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Wednesday led a protest against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) govt, condemning the recent hike in electricity prices following the removal of power subsidy for consumption below 7KW.
He demanded a complete rollback of the decision in the protest attended by Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi and senior Congress leaders.
Warring, while addressing the gathering, said AAP had done nothing, but impose financial burdens on the very people it promised to protect. “The removal of electricity subsidy has directly impacted 90-95% of Punjab’s population. This is nothing short of a betrayal,” he said.
Highlighting the plight of the industrial sector under AAP, he said, “During Congress tenure, industrial electricity was available at Rs 5 per unit. Even after all taxes, it was Rs 8.65 per unit. Now, under AAP govt, the same electricity costs Rs 11 per unit. This exorbitant rate is driving industries out, causing severe economic decline in the state. AAP is not just failing to fulfill its promises, but is actively ruining the state’s economy.”
Warring added AAP govt, in two years, accumulated a debt of Rs 61,000 crore, with plans to take on an additional debt of Rs 30,000 crore. “We warned about this, and now we are already witnessing the consequences with the rise in taxes on petroleum and diesel. Our money is being wasted on advertisements, with Rs 900 crore spent just to plaster CM Bhagwant Mann’s face across the state,” he added.
