On Teachers’ Day, hundreds of contract/guest teachers and other contract employees observed a hunger strike and held a protest, demanding job security for outsourced employees, at the Masjid ground.

They said there is no job security for contract employees working in Chandigarh administration and MC for 25 years in the absence of any central policy. The Centre had sought a response from administration in the matter of contract employees. They demanded a meeting with Chandigarh administrator regarding job security of 5000 contract employees.

Vinay Chaudhary, a duty magistrate, took a memorandum on behalf of administration.
Since the implementation of Central Services Rules in Chandigarh administration, the jobs of contractual employees are at stake. Recently, the issue of making permanent contract employees working for 20 to 30 years in various departments of the administration has also reached the ministry of home affairs.

Following the instructions of the central government, the UT administration has now completely stopped recruitment on a contract basis. The UT administration has targeted to complete the recruitment process for more than 4500 vacant posts in six months. More than 5,000 contract employees are providing services in the departments of UT.
