Union Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Monday that the cost of a home LPG or cooking gas cylinder has increased by Rs 50 per cylinder. Both clients in the general category and those on subsidies now pay more.

“The price of 14.2 kg LPG will go on to increase from 500 to 550 under Ujwala and from 803 to 853 for non-Ujwala users,” stated Puri.

Commercial LPG gas cylinder costs were lowered by Rs 41 last week. Restaurants, lodging facilities, and other businesses that depend on these cylinders for everyday operations were affected by the price change. The government also increased the excise tax on petrol and diesel earlier today, but oil marketing businesses would bear the increase rather than customers.

According to an official order, the excise duty on petrol was raised to Rs 13 per litre, and on diesel, it was raised to Rs 10 per litre.

The duty rise would “come into force on the 8th day of April 2025,” according to the statement.

There will be no change in the retail selling price of petrol and diesel because the excise hike will be offset by the decrease in retail pricing that was justified by the down in global oil prices, even though any tax changes are typically passed on to consumers.
