A Delhi-based person has rued how he is forced to sell his ultra-maintained Range Rover SUV at a very low price, due to the issuance of 10-year ban on diesel cars by Delhi NCR.
Included in the rants of the social media site X is Ritesh Gandotra who owns an 8 years old Land Rover range Rover. He shared an image of his SUV and berated the policy which he says disproportionately punatting tax-paying citizens that are responsible in terms of not overpolluting the air.
Gandotra published the post on July 1 – when the new order went into effect and Delhi could no longer offer fuel stations supporting diesel-dependent vehicles aged more than 10 years and petrol cars aged more than 15. Such cars can be called the End of Life (EoL) group, which is actually prohibited to drive in the city.
On his post, Gandotra has indicated that his Range Rover has just 74,000 kilometres on the odometer. He said that the car had almost two years of usage during the COVID-19 pandemic and has still a life of more than 2 lakh km. He called it a vehicle that is well-maintained and decried that even now, it is forced to be sold beyond the NCR area at very high discounts.
The 10-year diesel ban in NCR has made me sell it; and that too to buyers outside NCR, to throw-away prices as Gandotra wrote.
He is just one amongst hundreds of Delhi vehicle owners who have appealed to the government to revisit the blanket ban and instead take a more sophisticated step of taking into consideration the actual working and or drive-ability of a vehicle and not necessarily the age of the vehicle.
