The district court has found the husband and in-laws of a woman guilty of charges related to her dowry death. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept 12.
The case involves Manjit, 26, who committed suicide in Sept 2019. She was declared dead upon arrival at Govt Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh. As per the information, Manjit, tied knot with Vijay Kumar on Nov 16, 2011, but faced severe mistreatment from husband, her brother-in-law Bunty, mother-in-law Parkasho and father-in-law Prem Chand shortly after the marriage.
Since accused father-in-law Prem Chand, one of the accused in the case, passed away on Feb 1, 2019, proceedings against him were dropped. As per the complaint by Bablu, Manjit’s brother, the accused subjected his sister to physical abuse and demanded additional dowry, including a motorcycle and a car.
