Ex-Haryana minister Capt Ajay Yadav quits Congress

Former Haryana minister and national president of OBC Morcha of Congress Capt Ajay Singh Yadav on Thursday resigned from the post as well as the primary membership of the party, in the first major exit in the party following its shock loss in the state assembly elections.
In a message on X (formerly Twitter), Yadav said he was disillusioned with the party high command for “treating him shabbily”

“I have sent my resignation to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge from the post of AICC OBC department chairman and from primary membership of the Indian National Congress,” the post said.

“This decision was hard. My family has had 70 years of association with Congress as my father late Rao Abhey Singh became MLA in 1952 and I continued with the family tradition. Now, I am now disillusioned with the party high command for treating me shabbily after Sonia Gandhi left the post of Congress president,” Yadav posted on X.

Yadav has been camping in Rewari, while his son and former MLA Chiranjiv Yadav is in Rajasthan after he was appointed as an observer by Congress. Yadav remained inaccessible, while his son expressed ignorance behind the reason.

“I have also come to know through social media. I am trying to get in touch with him to get the details,’’ said Chiranjiv.

Yadav initially belonged to the anti-Hooda camp. His last portfolio was of finance minister in Hooda’s cabinet from 2009 to 2014. He lost the 2014 as- sembly elections. In 2019, his son Chiranjiv was elected from Rewari. This time, however, Chiranjiv lost to Laxman Yadav of BJP.
Yadav was initially upset over being denied a ticket from the Gurugram parliamentary constituency during the Lok Sabha elections.

His discontentment increased after his recommendations for tickets to OBC candidates were sidelined by Congress high command and the screening committee. Since then, he has distanced himself from party activities.
