Fazilka Police on Sunday arrested the granthi (ceremonial reader of the Guru Granth Sahib) of a gurdwara in Punjab’s Jalalabad area for molesting two minor sisters on July 7.
Senior superintendent of police Pragya Jain said that under the supervision of Jalalabad sub-division deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Achru Ram, the case of molestation of the minor girls by Joginder Singh has been resolved by arresting the main accused on Sunday.
The DSP said that on the complaint of the family, a case against Singh, son of Niamat Rai and resident of Chak Jamal Garh, was registered under Section 74 of the BNS and Section 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act.
“A search is being conducted to arrest the accused by raiding his house and premises of his possible hideouts, but the accused is on the run,” Achru said, adding that the accused was being interrogated.
The girls had come to pay obeisance at Shri Gurudwara Sahib.
The family alleged that the complaint of the family members “was not heard” due to some pressure.
