Haryana CM Saini Announces 20% Hike in Arhtiyas’ Paddy Cut

Having reached out to farmers by promising to expand MSP and offer a waiver on farm loans, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday tried to appease arhtiyas.
Saini announced a 20% hike in commission for paddy, from Rs 45.88 to Rs 55 per quintal. He also said govt would compensate for the losses incurred by arhtiyas due to wheat shortages. For this, he announced compensation of approximately Rs 12 crore.

The CM made these announcements while addressing a meeting with members of the representatives of Haryana State Grain Market Arhtiya Association and Haryana Rice Millers and Dealers Association at his residence here.

The meeting was attended by minister of state for transport Aseem Goyal and minister of state for urban local bodies Subhash Sudha.

During the meeting, the issue of wheat shortages was raised by arhtiyas. They apprised the CM that since 1966, no govt had ever compensated for this shortage, which averaged around 0.2% every year. The shortage in the previous Rabi season was 0.28%. Responding to this, the CM said state govt would compensate for the increased shortage of 0.08%. Haryana govt will cover the Rs 12-crore loss due to this shortage, he said.

The CM said the last date for delivering rice to FCI was June 30. Those who delivered by this date had been given a Rs 10 bonus by Haryana govt. Some millers faced issues due to storage shortages, therefore govt has decided to extend the last date to Aug 31. A request has been made to the central govt to extend the last date, and it is expected to be approved soon, he claimed.
