Haryana governor Bandaru Dattatreya honoured 383 children, including 303 girls, who stood first in 18 different types of competitions organised on the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour in all the districts across the state. The children were felicitated during a state-level award distribution ceremony organised by Haryana State Child Welfare Council at Indradhanush Auditorium in Sector-5 here on Wednesday.

The governor said: “Children are the future leaders of our nation. It is our moral responsibility to provide them proper upbringing, education and protection according to the rapidly changing scenario. Therefore, every parent should take the best care of their children.”

The governor said the children’s rights should be protected by creating awareness, and practising child labour is a sin. He said that child labour can be eliminated with the cooperation of all citizens. Therefore, for their upliftment and all-round development, and to make them self-reliant, youths are being trained under various projects in 22 districts and 25 small children’s houses of the state, he added. Apart from this, girls of the state are progressing in every field, he said.

Meanwhile, Haryana assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta said: “Through the CWC, children are bringing glory to the country and the state by showcasing their talent. The govt has taken effective steps towards eliminating female foeticide by running the ‘Beti Padhao Beti Bachao’ campaign. As a result of which, at present, the sex ratio in the state has reached 925.”
Women and child development minister Aseem Goyal, while addressing the programme, said apart from running family counselling centres, de-addiction centres, residential facilities, upliftment programmes, the CWC is also working for the all-round development of children by organising various types of competitions every year.
