This is after a helicopter carrying six people capsized near Gangnani in Uttarkashi in early Thursday morning and six of them died in the process. It happened early in the morning at nearly around 8:45 am at Gangotri National Highway when Manali to Gangotri Dham is on its way from Dehradun. Police, SDRF, fire fighting apparatus, medical aid and disaster management teams arrived at the spot to take up the relief operations.
This helicopter belonged to Heli Aerotrans company and had left from the Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun and destined for Harsil. There were seven people on board the vehicle not including the driver who was the pilot of the chopper. Some of the passengers died on the scene, and one other died while receiving treatment.
In the list of passengers, four of them belonged to Mumbai and two of them belonged to Andhra Pradesh. The casualties included 5 females and 1 male, the pilot and captain of the flight. A 51-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh is admitted in a hospital on account of his injuries.
At 8:50 am, when the information was reported to the SDRF, three teams from the Bhatwari and one team from the Ujeli post were mobilised. The teams found out that the helicopter had fallen into the gorge that was between 200 and 250 feet deep. They set at the top of the shore and started going down into the gorge to recover the bodies. Some of the victims include Captain Robin Singh of the pilot. There are no significant changes in the report, SDRF remains the leading in the provision of rescue operations in cooperation with local authorities and the emergency services.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami condoles the loss and prayed for the safe souls of all the individuals who were killed in the fire mishap and also expressed deep condolences to the families of the employees who lost their lives in this fire mishap. He affirmed that SDRF and other local administration teams immediately arrived at the spot and offered help regarding the disaster and performed the rescue and relief work. The poor people’s Chief Minister has also called upon authorities to help all the injured in their capacity and to investigate the crash.
