Himachal Declared Disaster-Affected State: Char Dham Yatra Suspended in Uttarakhand Till September 5

Excessive rain has aggravated the situation in the northern parts of India, such as Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir. Since Sunday Himachal Pradesh received plenty of rain. Four individuals were murdered late one night in Kotkhai, Jubbal, and Junga regions of Shimla because of landslides.

The state has been announced as disaster-affected in the Assembly by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The roads in and around Chandigarh, providing access to about five national highways, such as Chandigarh- Manali four-lane, are almost 800 and are closed. On Monday, schools and colleges have been closed down in 10 districts which include Kullu.

Two individuals were killed and six injured as a result of a landslide along the Kedarnath National Highway on Monday in Uttarakhand. The Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra have also been suspended till September 5 following red and orange warnings. Landslides destroyed 12 houses in Jammu & Kashmir in the Rajouri district.

There have been reports of flood like conditions in 6 districts of Haryana. An intrusion of a canal caused 50 acres of standing crop to be submerged in Sirsa. On Monday morning 29,313 cusecs of water were discharged at the Hathnikund Barrage, and this increased the water level of the Yamuna above the danger mark. Delhi government has warned of a flood.

Nine districts are experiencing floods in Punjab including Fazilka, Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Moga, Gurdaspur and Barnala. The villages affected to date are 1,312. Up to 4 feet of the floodgates of the Bhakra Dam are opened.
