JJP faces more setbacks as 2 MLAs quit and likely to join BJP

In a second setback to the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), two more MLAs quit the party and tendered their resignations as members of the legislative assembly on Thursday, reducing the party’s strength in the House from 10 to four in Haryana.

The two MLAs — Ramniwas Surjakhera from Narwana (reserved) and Jogi Ram Sihag from Barwala — are likely to join BJP.Both have been actively attending BJP’s events and were seen supporting the party’s Lok Sabha candidates. They even shared the stage with BJP leaders. Ramniwas Surjakhera in a post on X said while submitting his resignation to the party chief, former Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala’s father Ajay Chautala that “for the past two years, the party’s activities have been contrary to my political ideology, which has caused me great distress. Therefore, I resign from all responsibilities of the party.”

So far, six MLAs have quit the JJP over the last six days, dealing a major blow to its leader and former deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala. The party was a coalition partner of BJP from 2019 till March this year.

Tohana MLA Devender Singh Babli, Guhla MLA Ishwar Singh, Shahabad MLA Ramkaran Kala and Uklana MLA Anoop Dhanak, considered a close aide of the Chautala family, have already quit the party. This is not all, Narnaund MLA Ramkumar Gautam — who is angry with the JJP leadership and has been attacking Dushyant Chautala and his working style for a long time — may soon quit the party. With the resignation of six MLAs and the Narnaund MLA in a rebellion mode, Uchana MLA Dushyant is left with three MLAs, including himself. The other legislators left with JJP are Dushyant’s mother Naina Chautala, an MLA from Badhra, and Amarjeet Singh Dhanda from Julana.
