Mohali MC to Process Garbage at Lalru Plant

The Mohali municipal corporation will get the garbage processed at a Lalru-based private processing plant at the cost of Rs 1,090 per tonne. It will be done on lines of Nayagaon MC which is presently getting the garbage processed at Lalru-based private processing plant.
The agenda point will come up for the MC house approval during the MC house meet slated for Aug 22.

MC commissioner Navjot Kaur said recently the private processing plant management at Lalru has approved the rates of Rs 1,090 per tonne for processing integrated solid waste collected time to time at RMC points in Mohali.

Navjot said, “We had approached Nayagaon MC to study the process adopted by them for garbage disposal. We were told by the MC that they are getting the garbage disposed of at a Lalru-based private processing plant. So, we had a communication with Lalru plant and they had agreed to process garbage from Mohali MC as well at Rs 1,090 per tonne. Now, the point will be brought up in the MC house for approval and we believe that once approval is given, the work could be started in the first week of Sept.”

Following the orders of the high court and National Green Tribunal, dumping of garbage was stopped at garbage dumping site at Industrial Area Phase 8B with immediate effect two months back.

Since then, the garbage disposal became a challenge for MC and it was being dumped at RMC points. The Lalru-based company will lift the garage from RMC points and will segregate on its own before disposing it scientifically, said the MC chief.

Navjot Kaur has already allocated Rs 20 lakh for this initiative, with Rs 5 lakh being allocated per zone. Mohali is divided into four zones, and the project has received clearance from all necessary authorities.
