Deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Dr Yash Garg on Sunday said in democracy every voter must exercise his right to vote. For this, he said, a voter should ensure that his name was included in the voter list.
Garg said if a voter’s name was registered in the voter list, but he does not have a voter identity card, then for such voters, the Election Commission had issued a list of 12 alternative documents and on furnishing any of these, the voter would be able to cast his vote.

The 12 alternative photo identity documents that voters can produce at the polling booths to cast their vote include passport; driving license; photo identity card issued to employees by the central, state govt, public sector undertakings or public limited companies; photo passbook issued by the bank or post office; PAN card; smart card issued by the ministry of labour; MGNREGA job card; health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of the ministry of labour; pension document with photo; and Aadhaar card.

The district election officer said a person could also check his name in the voter list on the website of the chief election officer, Haryana (https://ceoharyana.gov.in). Apart from this, voters can also check their names by calling at helpline number 1950.
