The incident occurred when a couple, originally from Bengal, arrived in Gorakhpur from Narkatiaganj (Bihar) by bus. The man, Sourav Biswas, had been working in Narkatiaganj as a laborer and was on his way to Mumbai in search of better employment opportunities. As they waited at Platform No. 9 at Gorakhpur Railway Station, an officer in uniform, later identified as Abhishek Yadav, approached the couple. The officer used his uniform to intimidate the couple and falsely accused them of stealing a mobile phone.
To escalate the situation, Abhishek Yadav coerced the couple into exiting the train and claimed he needed to carry out a search. He then offered to escort them to a nearby location under the pretext of an investigation, but instead, he took them hostage in his vehicle. The couple was driven to Gorakhnath Police Station, where the officer first dropped Sourav at the gate. He then took his wife to the Sports College under the guise of needing to take her to a women’s police station.
Once at the Sports College, the officer attempted to rob the woman of her jewellery and cash. However, the woman started screaming for help, which led to a confrontation. In the chaos, the officer became violent and tried to silence her by physically assaulting her. The woman’s desperate screams alerted others nearby, prompting the officer to flee the scene. He managed to escape before law enforcement arrived.
