A major trans-border smuggling route of advanced arms and drug money has been broken by the state police in a major coup today when five persons were arrested in Amritsar in the crackdown. The network involving Pakistan-ISI supported handlers was also busted successfully in the joint operation carried out by the Punjab Police along with the central agencies.
As per the Director General of Police Chief Gaurav Yadav of the State, the crackdown resulted in the confiscation of an AK Saiga 308 assault firearm, a pair of pistols, 100 live cartridge of the two weapons, 7.50 lakhs of drug cash, a car and mobile phones. According to the Chief of the Punjab Police, the initial investigation of the incident showed that there were direct contacts between the accused and the Pakistan based operatives of ISI.
He said, the arrests and seizure were pointing towards a wide terror-gangster interface.
