The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday has arrested a private person Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Khalwara colony, Phagwara, Kapurthala district for demanding a bribe of Rs one lakh in the name of Tehsildar and manager Fard Kendar Phagwara.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said this case has been registered against the said accused on an online complaint lodged by Manjit Singh, a resident of village Madhopur in tehsil Phagwara on the Chief Minister anti corruption action line.
He further added that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that the above said accused has demanded an illegal gratification of Rs one lakh in a revenue case regarding mutation of ancestral land as his wife has submitted an application to the Tehsildar who has marked it to the concerned Patwari. The accused has assured the complainant to accomplish the task and told him that the Tehsildar and Fard Kendar manager has demanded Rs one lakh as a bribe in this regard. The complainant has also made recording of demand raised by the above said accused while demanding money and submitted to the VB as an evidence.
In this regard the VB range Jalandhar has investigated the complaint and found the allegations made by the complainant as true and correct. On the basis of this report, a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the above said accused at VB police station Jalandhar range and has been arrested. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he added.
