Congress MLA from Bholath Sukhpal Singh Khaira has claimed that the accused caught for sacrilege at a gurdwara in Bhagwanpur village of his constituency on Friday came from a family of drug peddlers, and his father and mother were used by the Punjab Police to implicate him in “false cases”.
He said, given the background of the accused, there was a strong possibility of a deep-rooted conspiracy behind the sacrilege and it must be exposed.
“Accused Hardev Singh alias Debi’s father Kashmir Singh from Dogranwal village has two dozen cases against him, mostly of drug peddling. He has also been convicted and is facing trial in a few cases. Punjab Police had recorded his statement and made him an approver to falsely implicate me and then a separate complaint was taken from his wife for allegedly threatening her to register another false case against me. Debi’s brother is also a prominent drug peddler,” Khaira said while addressing a gathering at Bhagwanpur village gurdwara.
He also posted his speech on Facebook. “Those who give false statements at the behest of police work for the latter. There is some deep-rooted conspiracy behind the sacrilege. Now police can say that the accused is mentally stable, but that would be an excuse,” he said, adding that the background of the accused assumed great significance in this case.
“I have a strong suspicion that there is some agency or there can be some organisation who want to create trouble in Punjab, to be behind him. A lot of things are happening in Punjab, manipulations are on to push narratives to defame the state and then to create an atmosphere for committing excesses. A fair probe should be held to bring out the entire conspiracy,” he argued.
Khaira also mentioned that justice was not being given in cases related to Bargari sacrilege and such new incidents were happening, “Bhagwant Mann govt has not given sanction to prosecute Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in these cases and trials of these cases have also been stayed. A few sacrilege cases have also been transferred out of Punjab and the Punjab govt did nothing to get them in the state,” Khaira added.
