Sikh Groups Protest for Justice in Sacrilege Cases

Waiting for justice in sacrilege and police firing cases of Faridkot for nine years, members of Sikh organisations protested in Kotkapura town on Sunday.

They chose Sept 1, day of the first Parkash Purb of Guru Granth Sahib on Sept 1, 1604, for the event and called the protest a “symbolic” one. If their demands are not met, they will start a bigger protest.Protesters have asked state govt to accord sanction to prosecute Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in three cases of sacrilege, transfer of sacrilege and Behbal Kalan police firing cases back to Faridkot court, and complete investigation in Behbal Kalan case and filing of chargesheet.

It was also stated that Congress and AAP formed govts on these issues, but they put these in the backburner after gaining power. The family members of Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjit Singh, who were killed in Behbal Kalan police firing on Oct 14, 2015, also participated in the protest.

“We have been waiting for justice and are losing hope. Earlier, SAD-BJP govt committed a sin by not taking action in the incidents, then Congress govt played with our sentiments and now AAP govt is going a step ahead in alienating Sikh organisations as it is sitting in according sanction against Dera Sacha Sauda head and not strongly opposing transfer of cases from Faridkot to Chandigarh,” said Krishan Bhagwan Singh’s son Sukhraj Singh and Gurjit Singh’s father Sadhu Singh. Going by the protests, elaborate security arrangements had been made by police.
