Suspected Intrusions in Pathankot Make Security Agencies Wary

Sharing its boundary with Pakistan and Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) — Pathankot is emerging as one of the most sensitive districts of Punjab due to frequent sightings of suspicious persons.

On Thursday night, two residents of Chakral village, located near the Kathua district in neighbouring J&K, reported seeing four suspects in the area following which police conducted a thorough combing and search operation.

According to sources, around 8 pm on Thursday, a local youth spotted four suspects in Army uniforms, who had their faces covered but were not carrying any weapons.

The suspects reportedly inquired whether there was any night patrolling in the village. Upon learning that 10 to 15 villagers patrol the area, they left. The man in formed the village sarpanch, who then alerted the police. Later, at 9.45 pm the same night, another villager saw the suspects near the sugarcane fields and reported the sighting to the police.

A comprehensive combing and search operation was carried out in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF). The operation, which spanned around a10-km area, utilised advanced techniques, including sniffer dogs and drone surveillance, to inspect the region.
Similarly, two days ago, suspicious activity was reported in Chorria village, which is close to the IndoPak border.

A woman observed suspects around 11 am. Sources said that the suspects knocked on her door and demanded money. She became suspicious and informed other villagers, who subsequently reported the incident to the police. Police conducted a search operation throughout the region.
