UP Drug Peddlers Caught With 5kg Opium in Jalandhar

The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has arrested two UP-based drug peddlers with 5 kg of opium.

Commissioner of police Swapan Sharma said acting on a tip off, the cops apprehended Bablu and Imran Ansari, both hailing from Bareilly district, UP.

He said during preliminary questioning, the accused admitted that they had brought the contraband from Bareilly at the behest of another co-accused to deliver the opium here.
No criminal background of the accused has been traced so far, the commissioner of police added.

2nd case within 2 weeks involving UP residents

It is the second case within two weeks wherein UP residents have been arrested with 2 kg of opium in Jalandhar. Earlier Jalandhar Rural police had arested three members of a drug peddling gang, including a woman.

All three accused hailed from UP. They were identified as Usma Khan from Aligarh district, Junaid Ansari and Adarsh Kumar from Bareilly, UP. The trio had told the police that they had procured opium from Jharkhand.
