Breaking News: Online Transactions to be Stopped from May 10, Petrol Only Available via Cash

Starting from May 10, 2025, online or digital payment facilities will be completely discontinued at petrol stations in Nagpur city. Now, if you need to refuel, it will be necessary to bring cash. This decision has been taken by the Vidarbha Petroleum Dealers Association.

Rising Concern over Cyber Fraud

The primary reason behind this move is the increasing incidents of cyber fraud. Amit Gupta, President of the Association, mentioned that cybercriminals have been committing fraud by transferring money from petrol pump owners’ bank accounts. As a result, several bank accounts have been blocked and some have had liens placed on them.

Petrol Pump Owners’ Accounts Seized

So far, two petrol pump dealers’ bank accounts in Nagpur have been seized. Additionally, liens have been placed on the accounts of more than 30 dealers. In one case, a dealer’s account was blocked due to a cyber transaction of just ₹280, even though ₹18 lakh was deposited in the account.

Dealing with Cyber Fraud, Dealers Decide to Stop Accepting Digital Payments

Frustrated by the rising incidents of cyber fraud, dealers collectively decided that they will no longer accept digital payments. They mentioned that customers use payment apps like PayTM, GPay, and UPI, but when fraud or disputes arise, the entire responsibility falls on the dealer, affecting their bank accounts.

Only Cash Payments for Petrol from May 10

From May 10, all petrol stations in Nagpur will only accept cash payments for petrol. Those who rely solely on digital payments may face difficulties, especially if they do not carry cash.

Is This Decision Temporary?

Currently, there is no time frame for this decision. Dealers have stated that digital payments will not be resumed until banks and cyber security systems reassure them. Therefore, citizens are advised to ensure they carry cash before heading to the petrol pump.
