Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday demanded a 300-bed trauma centre to be sanctioned for AIIMS, Bathinda, besides the opening of the institute’s centre at Mansa and speedy completion of the Ferozepur PGIMER satellite centre.
While addressing Lok Sabha, the Bathinda MP said despite the fact that 2,500 people visit AIIMS Bathinda on a daily basis and it was situated alongside two major national highways, which had high incidents of road accidents, it had only 28 beds in its emergency ward.
“I have been making requests for the establishment a 300-bed trauma centre for the last three years, but to no avail,” she added. Harsimrat also made an appeal for installing a PET scan machine at AIIMS Bathinda, stating that cancer cases in Punjab were increasing by 60% each year and that its incidence amongst women was one of the highest in the country.
The Bathinda MP also demanded a state organ transplant and tissue transplant organization (SOTTO) to be established at the medical institute.
She also called for the provision of high-end ICU ventilators for her constituency. The SAD leader added that there was an urgent need to establish a centre of AIIMS Bathinda at Mansa.
